Da Nang is an easy city to ride in: wide roads, few hills, the coast running the length of town. But not every trip should be made on two wheels. Here are the 2026 rental prices, the paperwork you actually need, the roads worth thinking twice about, and when a car with a driver works out cheaper.
Motorbike rental prices in Da Nang, 2026
Typical rates, fuel not included:
- Manual scooter (Wave, Sirius): 100,000–130,000₫/day
- Automatic scooter (Vision, Air Blade, Nouvo): 130,000–180,000₫/day
- Manual clutch / larger bikes: from 250,000₫/day
- Monthly: roughly 1.2–2 million ₫ depending on the bike
Three days or more usually gets 10–20% off. Expect noticeably higher prices around the 30 April and 2 September holidays and during the DIFF fireworks season.
Licences: the part most visitors get wrong
To ride legally in Vietnam a foreigner needs a Vietnamese licence, or an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention together with the home licence it belongs to.
An IDP issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention — the kind the US, UK and Japan issue — is not valid in Vietnam. Plenty of travellers only discover this after something goes wrong.
Deposits: never hand over your passport
Many shops ask to hold it. Ask for an alternative — a cash deposit (typically 2–5 million ₫) or a photocopy. Your passport is the most important thing you carry abroad; losing it costs you the rest of the trip.
Before you ride off, photograph the whole bike including existing scratches, and check brakes, tyres, lights and horn. Ask for two helmets and get the breakdown policy in plain words.
When a motorbike is the right call
- Getting around town: My Khe beach, Dragon Bridge, Han Market, lower Son Tra
- One or two people with light luggage
- You want to stop whenever something looks good
- Dry weather, and you are already used to busy Asian city traffic
When to leave the bike behind
- Hai Van Pass in rain or fog — a beautiful road, but long descents and heavy trucks
- The top of Son Tra two-up on a weak automatic — the gradients are severe and accidents are common
- Da Nang to Hoi An, Ba Na Hills or Hue with children, older travellers or real luggage
- Rainy season, September to December: sudden downpours and local flooding
- After any alcohol — penalties are severe and your insurance is void

By bike: about 150,000₫ rental + 60,000₫ fuel + parking ≈ 230,000₫, with 30 km each way in the sun, your own navigation, and finding parking in the Old Town.
By 4-seat car with driver: an all-inclusive per-route fare covering driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Split between three or four people it usually costs less than two motorbikes — and you arrive cool, dry, and not driving after a day on your feet.
